GARDEN CITY - A new report from Nassau County reveals graduation rates are down at Nassau Community College.

Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos says an audit in January revealed the rate of students graduating and transferring to four-year colleges dropped by more than a third, to 28 percent between 2009 and 2012. The rate puts the college at 31 out of 35 community colleges in New York.

"The college is failing our kids and it's failing them quite dramatically," says Maragos.

Maragos says the decline is due to infighting between the staff and administration, a strike and the lack of a president for almost two years.

Some students feel the drop is due to students transferring from school to school looking for the best deal.
