MINEOLA - NIFA, county officials and union leaders are trying to hammer out a deal to end the wage freeze for Nassau workers.

On Monday, the NIFA board voted to extend the wage freeze but also left open the possibility of lifting it if the unions accepted concessions in their new contracts.  On Wednesday night, it appeared a tentative agreement was in place between the unions and the county.

NIFA Chairman Jon Kaiman sent a letter Thursday to County Executive Ed Mangano expressing the board’s concerns over language in the proposed deal. As of Thursday evening, Kaiman believed the talks had turned a corner and everyone was on the same page.

A deal is expected to be finalized by the end of the weekend.
