UNIONDALE - ? Nassau Community College President Dr. Donald Astrab is stepping down.

Under his agreement, Astrab will continue to receive 15 months of his annual salary. Astrab will be receiving $230,000 per year, as well as benefits for him and his family until November of next year, totaling $287,000. He had served as the school?s president for three years.

Many residents are upset since one-third of the severance package will be funded through taxpayer money. The rest will come from state and tuition funds.

Executive Vice President Kenneth Saunders has been appointed as interim president.
