NORTH HEMPSTEAD - Students in North Hempstead put on a fashion show that was just trash, but that was their goal.

The students walked the runway in what they called a "trashion show," featuring garments made of recycled materials. The models designed their own dresses for the event, which aimed to raise awareness about recycling.

The event was emceed by Nancy Judd, the nationally known founder of Recycle Runway. One of her pieces is on display at the Smithsonian Museum.

The show was held at the town's new Yes We Can Community Center in Westbury and organizers hope to hold it again each year.
