MANHASSET - The North Hempstead Town Board voted 6-1 this evening to approve the expansion of the Apple Store parking lot in Manhasset.
Neighbors near the store had voiced concerns saying the expanded lot may increase air pollution and decrease the value of their homes.
As News 12 Long Island previously reported, more than 300 residents had signed a petition opposing the plan, but those residents now say that the town is ignoring their concerns.
Town Supervisor John Kaiman says the property owners agreed to take a number of steps to minimize the negative impact on the surrounding community.
Some residents have filed a lawsuit aimed at blocking the proposed parking lot expansion. A court date of Oct. 14 has been set to hear the case.
