NEW YORK - MTA Vice Chairman Fernando Ferrer apologized Wednesday for communication failures during the weekend blizzard.

The apology came at a monthly MTA meeting with railroad managers Wednesday. Topics discussed at the meeting included how Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the LIRR to suspend service amid the storm Saturday afternoon.

The storm blanketed Long Island in about 2 feet of snow. LIRR service was not fully restored until Tuesday.

Mark Epstein, who was appointed by the MTA as a commuter watchdog, says his patience is running thin.

"It doesn't cost them anything to give us information. Just give us accurate and timely information, we understand things may change," says Epstein.

Mitch Pally, the MTA's Long Island board member, says he would like to see the agency work to upgrade its communication system with stations, trains and the public.

The LIRR says there are no plans at this time to refund commuters who were unable to use their monthly or weekly tickets on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
