MTA approves fare hike for LIRR riders

The MTA has approved a plan for a 4 percent fare hike for Long Island Rail Road riders. Monthly LIRR ticket hikes will be capped

WOODBURY - The MTA has approved a plan for a 4 percent fare hike for Long Island Rail Road riders.

The MTA says monthly LIRR ticket hikes will be capped at $15, while weekly tickets will be capped at $6.75.

Officials say increases on one-way and daily rides will not exceed 50 cents. In addition, MetroCard prices are also going up.

The hikes take effect March 19.
