LAKE GROVE - A Long Island mother who lost her son on Sept. 11 is criticizing Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) for planning to hold hearings on the radicalization of U.S. Muslims. Talat Hamdani, of Lake Grove, says her 23-year-old son, Salman, was a practicing Muslim and NYPD cadet who was killed during the terrorist attacks. In his memory, she says she's standing up against King's meetings on Muslims' role in homegrown terrorism, calling them un-American.

King says the fact is that threats are coming from the Muslim community and that he's not trying to demonize its followers.

Hamdani says she'll be boarding a 4 a.m. train to Washington, D.C. Thursday morning to sit in on King's first hearing.
