CENTRAL ISLIP - Power company officials criticized for their delayed response to Hurricane Sandy outages faced intense scrutiny at a state-run meeting tonight.

Members of the Moreland Commission, created by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to investigate LIPA and National Grid, grilled the utilities over a range of customer service issues. From lackluster communication to outdated ticket systems, the commission demanded answers after nearly 1 million Long Islanders were left without power following the storm.

At one point, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice asked if the utilities had requested a report from employees about future improvements. Those who testified this evening said they had not been asked yet.

In addition, two LIPA officials said they did not have any recommendations about structural changes to help the company moving forward.

The meeting was held at Touro College in Central Islip.
