Mom sought after newborn found dead at North Lawrence recycling center

Officials say a worker at the Town of Hempstead plant found the baby's body on the conveyer belt yesterday afternoon.

According to authorities, the child was discovered at 2 Bay Boulevard at around 2:20 p.m.

NORTH LAWRENCE - Police are searching for the mother of a newborn baby that was found at a North Lawrence recycling center yesterday.

Officials say a worker at the Town of Hempstead plant found the baby's body on the conveyer belt yesterday afternoon.

According to police the umbilical cord and placenta were still attached.

Police have not identified the sex of the baby.

The case is being treated as a homicide, but investigators say they still must determine how the infant died.
