NEW HYDE PARK - Family and friends are desperately searching for answers as to why a Northwestern student from New Hyde Park disappeared a week ago.

Harsha Maddula, an 18-year-old pre-med engineering student was found dead two miles from his Illinois campus dorm last night. Police say Maddula went missing last Friday night after going to an off-campus party with friends. His friend told officials they left around 12:30 a.m. but Maddula simply vanished after that.

Last night, Maddula?s parents got the news that investigators found his body in the water of Willmette Harbor. Maddula?s wallet with his Northwestern ID card and cell phone were found on the body.Officials say there was no sign of foul play and they are trying to find out why Maddula was near the harbor. News 12 Long Island has also learned that Maddula reportedly called his friend and told her he was in his dorm room. However, surveillance video shows he was not. Friend and neighbor Dr. Shakh Hasan says Maddula was recently diagnosed with diabetes and was depressed because of it. FBI investigators are now trying to figure out why he disappeared.
