WOODBURY - Minority communities could make a difference in the Democratic primary for Nassau county executive, according to Newsday’s Joye Brown.

Former County Executive Tom Suozzi and Rosyln businessman Adam Haber are vying for the chance to run against incumbent County Executive Ed Mangano.

Newsday’s Joye Brown says polls show Suozzi way ahead of political newcomer Haber, but that shifting demographics and Haber’s support from minority communities could be a factor in the final results.

“Adam Haber went into these communities, he went street by street, block by block,” she says.

Leaders in the African-American community, including civil rights attorney Fred Brewington, threw their support behind Haber today. Suozzi says his record speaks for itself though, pointing to his appointments in his administration and his endorsements from African-American and Hispanic officials.

News 12 Long Island will re-air the debate between Suozzi and Haber this Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
