Miller Place residents urge changes to dangerous roadway

Drivers say a stretch of roadway in Miller Place is more like a speedway. One driver was killed and another badly injured in a crash

MILLER PLACE - Drivers say a stretch of roadway in Miller Place is more like a speedway. One driver was killed and another badly injured in a crash on Route 25A in Miller Place less than two weeks ago. Drivers and business owners along the highway say these scenes of carnage are happening far too often. Traffic experts say the distance between traffic signals makes drivers more inclined to speed down the roadway. Assemblyman Dan Losquadro (R-Shoreham), who is on the state Assembly's transportation committee, says the Department of Transportation (DOT) needs to find new ways to slow down cars on Route 25A. The DOT says it's studying safety changes, like more signal-controlled intersections. Route 25A in Miller Place was one of the improvement projects that has been suspended due to state budget constraints.
