SOUTH FLORAL PARK - A South Floral Park teen has made a remarkable recovery from a condition that could have killed her.

Miele Alexander, 13, says she was packing to go on a trip with her classmates when she suddenly collapsed, due to a brain aneurysm. Doctors say Miele suffers from hydrocephalus. The rare condition causes blood to build up in the brain, causing a stroke or worse.

Dr. Mark Mittler and Dr. David Chaliff at Cohen's Children's Hospital performed brain surgery to cap Miele's aneurysm after hours of scans on June 9.

After 10 days in the recovery room, Miele was able to return home. Doctors say an aneurysm can happen at any time, but is mostly seen in people over 50.
