SELDEN - An 82-year-old Middle Island woman won a $7 million lottery after buying a scratch-off game in Selden.
Marilyn Looney said her hairdresser was running behind schedule, so she went to the Mili Cards & Smoke shop on Middle Country Road and bought a "Golden Ticket" scratch-off game from a vending machine.
Looney said she couldn't read the scanned ticket due to the sun glare, so she asked the owner to check it.
"He jumped over to me and grabbed my hand and said, 'Lady, you're are a millionaire,' and shoved the ticket towards me and said sign it," she said.
Looney said she's splitting the money with her daughter, Carol. They will both receive a one-time net payment of over $2 million.
She said she wants to take her grandchildren to Disney and pay for their college.
