BELLPORT - Police say two men distracted a 92-year-old woman so they could steal from her Bellport home.

Police say 28-year-old Michael Windland, of Lake Ronkonkoma, and 32-year-old Bruce Wimmer, of Bohemia, went to the home of a woman named 'Violet' on Aug. 16. They allegedly told her they were doing a chimney inspection.

Police say one man distracted the woman while the other took more than $160 in cash that she had in church envelopes and prescription drugs.

Violet didn't realize her money was gone right away. When the men left, she went to the phone book to see if their company "New York's Finest" was legitimate.

Police say both men have been convicted on prior felonies. In 2007, Wimmer was arrested for a string of home burglaries in the Oakdale and Sayville areas.

Officials are investigating if the men are linked to other scams that occurred this summer.  Residents who think they may have been a victim of this scam are urged to contact the Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.

Windland's mother told News 12 that her son isn't guilty.
