Officials say Michael Petikas, 31, broke into the vet’s home in Glen Cove on July 29 and then again on August 1.

GLEN COVE - A Floral Park man was arrested for allegedly robbing an Afghanistan war veteran's home twice in one week.

Stephen Moore says he and his wife had only bought their house on Harwood Drive in Glen Cove three weeks ago after he returned from Afghanistan. Poilce say Michael Petikas, 31, broke into the house twice and stole electronic devices and more than $1,000 worth of jewelry.

Glen Cove police learned Petikas was allegedly visiting local pawn shops to sell the stolen goods and was planning on moving to North Carolina. One of the officers then called Petikas and set up a meeting to buy some of the stolen jewelry. When Petikas showed up, he was arrested.

Police say Petikas once lived in the house that he allegedly robbed twice. Upon interviewing him, police say they learned he has a drug problem.

Police have recovered all of the Moores' stolen property.
