LONG BEACH - A Queens man has been arrested in Long Beach for allegedly using his place of employment to receive large shipments of marijuana.

Officials say 49-year-old Michael Gonzalez, of Howard Beach, has been charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

Authorities say the operation involved two large shipments of marijuana being sent to patients at a Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, News 12 has learned. Officials say the patients were unaware that their names were being used to have the packages sent.

According to officials, when the packages arrived, Gonzalez retrieved them and then hid them in a storage area. They say staff and management at the facility cooperated with the investigation and sought to maintain the protection of the patients.

Detectives say they were able to recover approximately 15 pounds of marijuana.

Gonzalez is due back in court next week.
