MERRICK - Police say a North Merrick woman is being treated for severe bite wounds at Nassau University Medical Center tonight after being attacked by several pit bulls.

Neighbor Tom Sporher says it was just before 5 p.m. when he saw a pack of bloodied pit bulls roaming his street, and called Nassau police to investigate.

A source tells News 12 Long Island that a female tenant living at the same home as the dogs was trying to break up a fight between two of them when one attacked her.

Police say they have captured three of the five dogs that got loose. They are urging anyone who may have come in contact with the two still on the loose to call 911.
