WANTAGH - With the start of Memorial Day weekend, Long Islanders took advantage of the warm weather by heading to Jones Beach today.

In addition to enjoying the sand and walking along the boardwalk, hundreds of beachgoers got a preview of the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Air Show where the Navy F-18 Super Hornet soared through the sky at nearly two times the speed of sound.

Residents say they're excited that summer is finally here and all agreed that the beaches are one of the best parts about living on Long Island.

The official air show will take place Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Thousands of spectators are expected to attend.
