MEDFORD - The Medford Multicare Center is under investigation for another death in its ventilator unit.

Sandra Cunha, 71, died July 20 at the center. Her family says they were told the breathing machine she was on failed. Family members say the employees didn’t react quickly enough to alarms signaling the ventilator wasn’t working.

The New York State Department of Health and attorney general are investigating Cunha’s death.

As News 12 Long Island has reported, nine employees at the center were criminally charged following the 2012 death of Aurelia Rios in the unit.

Cunha’s family has hired an attorney, but she is holding off filing any sort of legal action until the results of state investigations are made public.
