MASTIC BEACH - A Suffolk Jewish center is in danger of closing down after servicing the community for more than half a century.

The Mastic Beach Hebrew Center has been in service since 1937. At one point, it served more than 100 families, but now it is down to just over 20.

With fewer members than ever before, the center is struggling to pay its bills. The budget for the temple is about $100,000 a year and about $80,000 for insurance and upkeep.

Sarah Reich, 20, has been a member of the congregation since she was born. She is putting together a concert to raise money for the temple.

The congregation says the center must survive, even if there is only one member.
