MASTIC BEACH - Suffolk County has begun a comprehensive cleanup effort in Mastic Beach in order to sweep the wetlands for debris washed up by Superstorm Sandy.

Gary Stiritz, deputy mayor of Mastic Beach, says that the effort is a collaboration between Suffolk County and the Village of Mastic Beach.

Stiritz says that the county is providing crews, expertise and specialized equipment specifically needed to navigate wetlands.

It is important to the community that the area is clear by summer, in time for the tourist season.
