Massapequa Park mulls bill to keep yards maintained

MASSAPEQUA PARK - The mayor of Massapequa Park is proposing a new law that would require all yards in the village to be maintained weekly, including lawns, pools, siding and any general upkeep. Mayor James Altadonna says the law is his way of trying to keep foreclosed properties in the village from becoming unkempt eyesores. The village recently gave banks that own foreclosed homes a deadline of today to get neglected properties cleaned up. Now that the deadline has come and gone, workers were out today doing the work, and the village says it plans to send those banks the bill. A public hearing for the new law will take place at next month's meeting. If passed, it would take effect immediately.
