Massapequa Park bands together in man's leukemia battle

The Massapequa Park community is pitching in to help a family whose father has a rare form of leukemia. John Sopack will undergo a bone

MASSAPEQUA PARK - The Massapequa Park community is pitching in to help a family whose father has a rare form of leukemia.

John Sopack will undergo a bone marrow transplant next month in his battle against leukemia. Following his transplant, Sopack will need a sterile place to recover - a difficult task with a 2-year-old and baby in tow.

Contractor Gary Zaccaro heard Sopack's plight and is spearheading $35,000 worth of renovations for free. Contractors, electricians and plumbers are all donating their time and services to help support the Sopack family.

"It means everything," says Sopack's wife Natalie. "It's overwhelming."
