MASSAPEQUA - Police are searching for a driver who they say struck a Massapequa mom outside her children's school and then fled the scene yesterday.

According to investigators, 45-year old Ellen Meany was riding her bicycle with a friend southbound on Unqua Road at around 11:30 a.m. when she hit the side view mirror of a parked car and fell into oncoming traffic.

That is when police say a car struck the woman head on and took off from the scene. Meany, a stay-at-home mother of three young kids, suffered severe head injures.

Officials have obtained a surveillance photo of the vehicle, and they believe it is a teal-colored late 1990s Ford Taurus Mercury Sable.

Meany remains in critical but stable condition tonight at the Nassau University Medical Center. Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
