MASSAPEQUA - A Massapequa mom says her young daughter was exposed to inappropriate content while playing a popular computer game.

Andrea, who didn't want use her last name, says she found inappropriate conversations in her 9-year-old's chat room on Movie Star Planet. The site allows kids to create their own movie star persona.

"I started going through her messages," Andrea said. "And I found a lot of messages with bad content, sexual content and people asking her to have sex."

News 12 checked out the site and found material in the open forum section that many parents would consider inappropriate for young children.

Andrea says she set up an account for her daughter because she believed it was safe after seeing an advertisement on Nickelodeon.

IT expert Ron Gerber calls this is a common problem with websites that target kids. Gerber says parents must always monitor their children's Internet activity.

A spokesperson for the website says that although it uses a very comprehensive and strict automated filtering systems combined with live moderators, they encourage parents to help keep the site safe.
