Massapequa LIRR station to get makeover

MASSAPEQUA - Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) President Helena Williams revealed a $40 million project today to renovate the Massapequa train station.

Williams says crews will replace the station platform, canopy, waiting room, P.A. system, elevator and escalator. Williams also says that a new 'pocket track' will be built between tracks, allowing more trains to come through, with better service.

Williams goes on to say that the project ties into the East Side Access that the LIRR is currently working on, which will allow LIRR trains to go to both Penn Station and Grand Central Station.

The project is not expected to disrupt service, and is expected to be finished by 2015.
