HEMPSTEAD - The Mary Brennan Inn, a food pantry in Hempstead, is celebrating 11 years in business.

Jean Kelly, the executive director, says the food pantry celebrated the milestone by unveiling a guest choice pantry, which gives the needy a choice over what foods they bring home.

The facility, which was built to serve the needs of 200 people, refuses to turn away people and currently serves between 400 to 550 people a day.

The pantry offers perishable foods, meat, seafood, and even butter to those who need it. Inn employees say there is no limit on how much food needy families can take from the pantry.
