COMMACK - Police say an East Northport mother has been arrested after she allegedly left her two young children in the car with the windows closed on Friday.

Officials say a Good Samaritan noticed Maria Luongo-Devivo's two young children in the car in the Meat Farms' parking lot on Commack Road. The woman alerted a store employee, who then called police.

When police arrived on the scene, Luongo-Devivo had returned to her car, and her 5-and 1-year-old sons were both sweating profusely, with flushed faces. An investigation revealed that the children were in the car without proper ventilation for approximately six minutes.

Luongo-Devivo was charged with two counts of child endangerment. The children were checked for health issues at the scene, but they did not require further medical attention.

The kids have since been released to a neighbor, and child protective services has been notified.

The 49-year-old mother was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 1
