WOODBURY - More Americans are expected to hit the roads this holiday weekend than last year, but many Long Islanders say they?re not afraid of a heavy traveling day.

AAA expects more than 92 million Americans to travel by car this weekend, up 2 percent from last year. Gas prices have dropped almost 20 cents in the last five weeks, much to the delight of travelers.

Some also have technology on their side to make their trips easier. Nicole Mayerson, of Dix Hills, says the GPS system her 12-year-old son got for Hanukkah will be put to good use.

?I mean I think it's kind of funny that a 12-year-old asks for a GPS system,? Mayerson says. ?He doesn't want to get lost. He wants to be the director and make sure we get there safe and sound.?

The LIRR has added 14 more trains and the Cross Sound Ferry has added extra boats on the Orient Point line.
