Many Independence Day parades held despite rainy weather

Massapequa held its Independence Day parade at 11 a.m. (7/4/14)

WOODBURY - Many Long Island towns still held their annual Fourth of July parades Friday morning despite the rainy weather.

Port Jefferson hosted its annual Fourth of July parade, which started near North Country Road and headed down Main Street before ending at Barnum Avenue.

Massapequa held its Independence Day parade at 11 a.m. The parade started on Walker Street and finished on Park Boulevard.

Southampton Village's 4th of July Parade began at Railroad Avenue and featured about 100 vets, including some from World War II. The parade is a 100-year-old tradition in the village, and it happens rain or shine.

Amityville's parade was postponed until 10 a.m. Saturday, and Patchogue has also postponed its parade due to weather.
