UNIONDALE - Time is running out on the New York Islanders' lease with Nassau Coliseum, but if County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) gets his way, the team won't be going anywhere soon. As News 12 Long Island has reported, the Islanders have threatened to leave once their lease is up in 2015 if nothing is done to redevelop the coliseum. Mangano's office says it is releasing details tomorrow on a new plan to jump-start economic growth at the site. The plan calls for the selection of a master developer for the site, who would be in charge of bridging the gap between dollars necessary to construct a new arena and the rent a sports team should realistically pay to play there. The developer would also pursue mixed-use opportunities, including residential and retail space, to help offset the costs of constructing the new arena.News 12 Long Island reached out to the Islanders for comment, but the team has not yet responded.
