MASTIC BEACH - A man is in critical condition after a welding accident sparked an explosion in Mastic Beach.

The blast happened at the corner of Lakeview Drive and Aspen Road this afternoon. Police say the victim, whose identity has not been released, was trying to cut through a tank with a torch when fuel or flames inside of it suddenly ignited.

Amateur video captured at the scene shows flames and thick, black smoke ripping through the tank.

No one else was injured in the incident, police say.
