SYOSSET - Everardo Nieto, 33, was sentenced today to four to 12 years for killing a Syosset man while driving drunk and drag-racing. Police say Nieto was drinking vodka and drag-racing with another truck on Thanksgiving in 2010. He crashed head-on into an elderly couple's car near Jericho Turnpike, according to police.Myron Jacobs, 86, died in the crash and his 84-year-old wife, Lucille, broke 28 bones in her body. The couple's daughter says her mother now struggles through life without her husband of 61 years.In court today, Nieto apologized to the family through a translator, saying, "I am very sorry. I know I failed these people, but I am not a beast." Nieto pleaded guilty in November to second-degree manslaughter, aggravated vehicular assault, assault and driving while intoxicated.
