Valley Stream man accused in dog's death after animal left in hot car

Ian Kassof, 36, of Valley Stream, was arraigned today on animal cruelty charges. (6/25/14)

VALLEY STREAM - A Valley Stream man pleaded not guilty after being accused of causing the death of a dog by leaving it in a hot car for hours.

The Nassau District Attorney's Office says Ian Kassof left his mixed breed pit bull in a hot car for hours while he worked earlier this month on McCarthy Road in Island Park.

Kassof's attorney says the 36-year-old didn't have a place to leave the dog while he was at work. He says his client even took the dog for a walk and gave it water throughout the day.

Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice says it was a painful death for the animal.

If convicted, Kassof faces up to one year in prison.
