LAKE GROVE - The Make-A-Wish Foundation takes children's dreams and transforms them into wonderful magical experiences.

And that's exactly what they did for one Lake Grove girl who is a cancer survivor.

Nikolina Johannessen, 7, has big hopes and dreams. "I've always wanted to be a princess," says Nikolina.

But Nikolina's first few years of life were more of a nightmare after she was diagnosed with leukemia at 3 years old.

Nikolina went through 2 1/2 years of chemotherapy, she lost her hair, but never her spirit.

Make-A-Wish Suffolk County granted her the special wish, by turning their annual gala into her royal ball.

Nikolina got to design her own ball gown. Princess Nikolina and her family arrived at the ball in a horse and carriage and her favorite Disney princesses lined up to greet her at Villa Lombardi's in Holbrook.

During the ball, she sat at her royal table and was served chicken fingers and fries on a silver platter.

She was showered with gifts and watched the princesses and other Disney characters perform.

Make-A-Wish Suffolk County will also be building a playground castle in Nikolina's backyard.
