MINEOLA - Major changes are on the way for Nassau's new NICE bus system and the news has commuters grumbling. Dozens of schedule changes are slated to take effect Sunday. Some routes will be canceled and others will see buses less frequently, but there will also be some added service. Officials say the N45, N48 and the N51 lines will no longer run on Saturdays. A number of other routes will run only during peak hours: the N21, N24, N45, N78, N74 and N62 buses. Two new express lines will be added, running into and out of Queens. Veolia Transportation, which took over the Nassau County bus company a few months ago, says the changes are a way to provide better service and help plug a $7 million budget gap. Riders who spoke to News 12 Long Island say they're not happy about the changes.
