FARMINGVILLE - A Farmingville family is having an extra special Fourth of July weekend.

Mikey Ortiz thought he was at his martial arts dojo in Holbrook for a special private lesson and believed the News 12 Long Island cameras were there to shoot a commercial.

The 9-year-old got a big surprise when his dad, Marine Maj. Mike Ortiz, greeted him.

Ortiz has been deployed overseas since August, working as a civil affairs planner in Afghanistan and Bahrain.

"It's been so long," he says. "My wife is more the hero than I am. She's done so much while I was away. I just left and did one job and left her with all the rest."

Ortiz must report to Washington, D.C. for a few days, but after that, he says he has no further orders to redeploy.
