ISLIP - Long Islanders looking to take an international flight may soon no longer have to fly out of New York City-based airports.

Long Island MacArthur Airport and the Town of Islip today announced plans to fly international flights out of the airport.

So far, no airline carriers have expressed interest in international flights at MacArthur, but officials are starting the dialogue with the Federal Aviation Administration. If the airport gets the green light, the first international flight could take off within two years, but the airport would still need a full customs area.
