Police say they arrested Christine Nunes after someone

Police say they arrested Christine Nunes after someone called police about the little girl locked in a car in the parking lot of the Broadway Mall in Hicksville.

HICKSVILLE - A Lynbrook nanny was arrested for allegedly leaving a 3-year-old girl alone in a hot car Tuesday.

Police say they arrested Christine Nunes, 37, after someone called police about a little girl locked in a car in the parking lot of the Broadway Mall in Hicksville.

Nunes allegedly left the girl alone for a half-hour while she was inside Target. Police say the temperature in the car was over 100 degrees. They also say Nunes shoplifted from the store.

The girl was treated for dehydration and released to her father.

Nunes’ attorney says his client is “very troubled” and has a history of mental illness that includes an impulse disorder.

Sources say Nunes is also in the middle of a deportation hearing.

Nunes was arraigned in Hempstead on charges of petty larceny and first-degree reckless endangerment. She was ordered held on $50,000 bond or bail.
