LYNBROOK - Members of a Lynbrook family are asking for the public's help after their 19-year-old son was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver last month.

Jeffrey Francisco was riding his bike on Broadway in Lynbrook when he was struck by a vehicle and left in the street. The incident was captured on surveillance footage.

The teen suffered a severe cut to his rectum and had to undergo a colostomy. Jeffrey's mother Verqui Francisco called on the driver to go to the police.

"Please call the police and tell them that it was you, explain to them what happened," she told News 12 Long Island.

Detectives say the driver was going about 50 mph in a 30 mph zone at the time of the crash. Police say they believe the car involved is a silver Subaru Impreza made between 2002 and 2007.

Jeffrey Francisco says the pain after the crash was excruciating, but realizes it could have been worse.

"I'm grateful that I'm still alive," he says.
