SYOSSET - Graduation day turned into an extra special event for one Syosset teen.

Lt. Col. Richard Davis, who had been deployed in Kabul, Afghanistan since last summer, wanted to make sure he was a part of his daughter's graduation.

He was supposed to return in July, but was determined to make it home for his daughter's special day.

As 18-year-old Stephanie Davis walked on stage, she was greeted by her father, who was dressed in full uniform.

"At that moment when I met her on the stage, it was surreal," he says. "Everything else was blocked out at that moment."

Davis contacted school officials two months ago about the surprise. School officials did not hear from him until he showed up on Long Island last week, and a plan was quickly put into place.
