WESTBURY - Long Island women today hailed Angelina Jolie's decision to have a preventative bilateral mastectomy.

In an op-ed piece for The New York Times, Jolie detailed her decision to have both of her healthy breasts removed after she discovered she was carrying the BRCA 1 gene.

The BRCA gene dramatically increases the chances of breast and ovarian cancer.

Sharon Stanley, of Westbury, says she also carries the BRCA gene. She lost both her mother and grandmother to cancer. Stanley says she believes Jolie's sincere and heartfelt words will save countless lives.
