A recent increase in demand for food and clothing has been leaving some Long Island food pantries with bare shelves and a shortage of supplies.

Long Island Cares Inc. says its food banks are seeing a 25 to 30 percent increase in the number of people coming in for aid.

A study run by the company says nearly 64 percent of all agencies are reporting an inadequate amount of food.
