LONG BEACH ? News 12 Long Island?s - Erin Colton was live this afternoon from Long Beach where residents emerged from their homes to take a look at the destruction Tropical Storm Irene has left behind.

The people who took the brunt of the storm in Long Beach were not those along the boardwalk, but those who live on the west end near South Park Avenue.

Irene plowed through the area with winds up to 65 mph even breaking through the boardwalk.

The water was so high in Long Beach at one point that News 12 Long Island?s crew car was submerged under water.
