LONG BEACH - The City of Long Beach has increased some of its fees, leaving many residents annoyed, especially those still recovering from Sandy.

The city has raised garbage collection fees to $575 a year. Parking permits have also been increased from $10 to $50 in three of the overnight parking lots.

A new category has also been added for water usage, with residents using between 12,000 and 150,000 gallons per quarter paying $4.49 for every 1,000 gallons. The city says there has been no change to minimum water usage rates and a little more than half of its residents will not have to pay more.

People who are not yet back in their homes because of Sandy do not have to pay the rate increase. Other residents will have to pay half the fees by July 1 and the rest by Jan. 1.
