LONG BEACH - Long Beach cops have announced that they are suing the city for $39 million.

The officers say they can prove they were punished for backing Republicans.

A total of six officers originally filed suit in 2012 claiming they were demoted or re-assigned for backing Republican candidates. Their case was dismissed for lack of proof.

The officers now say they have the proof they need, emails sent from Democratic leaders to city officials.
