HAUPPAUGE - Local Department of Motor Vehicle offices are making a push to get more drivers to check the box and become an organ donor.

Assemblyman Jim Conte, (R-Huntington Station) is a two-time kidney transplant recipient leading the charge for more donors. He is sponsoring new legislation, named Lauren's Law, which would prohibit driver's license applications from being processed without the organ donor section being filled out.

Statistics show that New York State ranked last in the country in 2010 for signing up new donors. Officials say that one person can save up to eight lives after they die.
