WOODBURY - Long Island Rail Road union employees are preparing for a possible rail-wide strike on July 20.

LIRR union head Chris Natale fielded questions from union workers and handed out picket signs at his Babylon office Wednesday afternoon. Now that Congress says it will not intervene, he says he is expecting and preparing for the worst.

“I really don't see any way around [a strike] unless the MTA changes their position,” he told News 12. “They have contempt for the process."

Natale says as many as 5,600 union employees could end up on picket lines if the contract negotiations continue to yield no solutions. He reminded workers to stay professional when dealing with upset commuters.

Andy McDonald, of Babylon, echoed the thoughts of many potential commuters who may be affected by the looming strike.

“It’s going to be a nightmare,” McDonald said.
